POSITION:  Construction Technician

Currently seeking Construction Technicians skilled in heavy equipment operation. This position requires the use of a variety of equipment for the purpose of burying telecommunication cables. Equipment includes trenchers, backhoes, loaders, bulldozers, cable plows, tampers, compactors, jackhammers, and more. Experience in safely hauling equipment to and from job sites is a must. Daily assignments will include locating underground utilities, plowing, trenching, setting pedestals, or pulling fiber.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High School diploma or General Education Development (GED)
  • Full-time work schedule. Hours vary with Summer Schedule and Winter Schedule.
  • This position may be required to work overtime including weekends and evenings as
  • Must have the ability to operate a manual transmission

POSITION:  Facilities Services Cable Locator

Sierra Tel is currently recruiting for a team member to assist the Facilities Services Technicians to locate and excavate copper and fiber optic cable in the field. This position involves driving daily to various locations within our serving area. Duties will include working with small wires and mechanical components, pulling, or blowing various types of cable through conduit, placing ground rods, and replacing pedestals. Job Description:
The Outside Plant Engineer is responsible for planning, estimating, design and relocation of copper and fiber cable, conduit, and manholes for outside plant capital improvement projects and maintenance work orders. This will include creating capital and maintenance work orders that identify associated costs with applicable account codes, ensure RUS financed projects meet design specifications, and those contract procedures are followed. Create and maintain CAD plant database records, right-of-way negotiations, obtaining permits from government agencies, and maintaining OSP material inventory records.

Job Duties:

  • Review and process city/county planning department maps and PG&E Construction Intents.
  • Participate in the development of the annual capital and expense budgets.
  • Create system generated capital and expense work orders detailing labor costs, material costs, and applicable account codes.
  • Design new CAD database plant installation prints for capital work orders and projects.
  • Update maintenance facility changes to OSP maps and CAD database records.
  • Secure rights-of-way from government agencies and private parties.
  • Secure permits from government agencies where applicable.
  • Coordinate capital and maintenance field activities with landowners and subscribers.
  • Apply applicable design specifications to RUS financed projects and ensure specific contract procedures are followed.
  • Coordinate project scheduling with the construction and other departments.
  • Create purchase orders for OSP projects and maintaining inventory levels.
  • Perform field inspections at construction sites to ensure RUS standards are being met along with engineering specifications.
  • Track and report on materials inventoried per construction project or contract.
  • Update and maintain as-built drawings as facilities are placed throughout the construction process.
  • Pulling inventory/shipping/receiving for I&R Technicians and other departments as necessary.

Job Requirements:

  • 3+ years’ experience in OSP Engineering.
  • Three to five years of CAD experience; preferably with AutoCAD (Autodesk Map).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Must demonstrate an understanding of RUS engineering practices and administrative requirements.
  • Basic computer keyboard and software skills (Excel, Word, and other applications).
  • A good understanding of mapping, engineering, and plant records software.
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license and a favorable DMV record.

Physical, Mental, and Environmental Requirements:

  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Must have minimal ability to stand, sit, squat, bend, kneel, twist, crawl, reach, push, and pull as required for light duties of standard office clerical positions.
  • Occasional lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 20 lbs.
  • Exposure to air-conditioned/heated office environment.
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at the normal spoken word level.
  • Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing data, operating of office equipment, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work.

POSITION:  Field Service Technician-Network

The FST-Network installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains telecommunications products and equipment that TDS sells and leases (Key Systems, PBX, Centrex Systems, and/or other business systems). This position performs work associated with splicing and maintaining outside plant facilities and equipment. This position installs, splices, repairs, and maintains aerial, buried, and/or underground fiber optic and copper cable. The FST-Network has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of telecommunications.

The FST-Network has direct, face-to-face contact with our customers and is expected to be proactive with the sales of TDS services and products. Services include, but are not limited to, Telephony, Video/CATV/DBS, Internet, and/or high-speed networks.
