POSITION:  Telecommunications Technician 1

Sierra Tel is the proud provider of communications products to the mountain community by offering telephone, long-distance, internet, and more for greater than 100 years. The Central Office is seeking a Telecommunications Technician I who will join the critical team of individuals ensuring all our customers receive the services they require. This position is responsible to provide reliable networking and switching services by maintaining the consistent operation of all equipment. Daily functions may include, but are not limited to the installation, monitoring, and troubleshooting of:

  • Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) technologies
  • Fiber Optic Network
  • Wireless Networks
  • Remote Switching Centers
  • Emergency Generators
  • Power Transfer Systems

This position may require overtime and include assignments to on-call shifts on a rotating basis.

Minimum requirements for the Central Office Technician I:

  • High School Diploma or
  • One year of related work
  • A solid understanding of 48 Volt DC power systems is preferred
  • Class C California Driver’s License with a minimum of three years unrestricted driving

POSITION:  Construction Supervisor

Nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range, Sierra Tel, the area’s premier telecommunication company is seeking an experienced supervisor for the Construction Department. The selected candidate will have first-hand experience supervising construction crews and leading teams safely to successful job completion. This position is responsible to oversee and guide the day-to-day functions of each team in the department.

Requirements
Successful Candidates will have a combination of five or more years of experience and education in a supervisory capacity in the construction industry. Priority will be given to applicants with expertise in Outside Plant Operations and RUS (Rural Utilities Service) procedures. A High School diploma or General Education Development (GED) is desirable. Must have a current and valid Class C California driver’s license with the ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License should the need arise. Full-time work schedule of at least 40 hours per week. Times may vary with Summer and Winter Schedules. This position may be required to work overtime including weekends and evenings as needed.

Job Description:
The Regulatory/Government Affairs Manager supervises Regulatory and Revenue Processing filings.  Acts as a liaison between Sebastian and consulting firms, California Public Utilities Commission, and state and federal legislators.  Is responsible for company cost separations and recovery at both the state and federal levels.  Provides revenue budget forecasts.  Represents Company on appropriate CalCom, NTCA committees, and other trade organizations.

Job Duties:
Include but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for presentations at Board of Directors meetings regarding rate cases and regulatory developments/changes/impacts
  • Responsible for overseeing all CABs billing, tax, and surcharge change implementation orders
  • Coordinates the timely filing and prepares studies as they relate to data requests and CPUC or FCC tariff filings
  • Provides support to company managers in all regulatory matters
  • Assists Controller with financial/revenue information as needed
  • Gathers financial and associated information for cost separations study
  • Works with consultants in the preparation of cost separations study and makes recommendations to Vice President of Administration relating to cost recovery
  • Monitors Rate of Return
  • Responsible for General Rate Case Analysis and filings

 Job Requirements:    

  • Must have an extensive background in telephony operations
  • Experience in Part 36 and 69 Separations procedures, State and Federal Public Utilities Commissions procedures, and Part 32 accounting rules
  • Must work well with the public and represent the company in situations involving other companies and agencies
  • Must have comprehensive computer skills involving spreadsheet and word processing systems
  • A Bachelors degree in an appropriate field or equivalent experience is required

As such, Sierra Tel is seeking an experienced IT Network Technician to provide exceptional and reliable network services, including network security, switching, and routing of all Central Office Data. POSITION:  Facilities Engineer

Our Engineering department is looking for a telecommunications engineer to join its team. The Facilities Engineer is crucial to properly place telecommunications equipment for maximum service to the community. This position is responsible to research, design, and coordinate the location of Plant fiber, cable, and electronic facilities. Daily duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting inspections of assigned projects
  • Ensuring work is being completed to RUS standards
  • Utilizing Mapcom (M4 mapping) and Global Positioning System (GPS) software for layout, design, and recordkeeping

TDS TELECOM

POSITION:  Field Service Technician-Network

The FST-Network installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains telecommunications products and equipment that TDS sells and leases (Key Systems, PBX, Centrex Systems, and/or other business systems). This position performs work associated with splicing and maintaining outside plant facilities and equipment. This position installs, splices, repairs, and maintains aerial, buried, and/or underground fiber optic and copper cable. The FST-Network has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of telecommunications.

The FST-Network has direct, face-to-face contact with our customers and is expected to be proactive with the sales of TDS services and products. Services include, but are not limited to, Telephony, Video/CATV/DBS, Internet, and/or high-speed networks. This position exceeds customer expectations by performing extraordinary customer service, identifying customer needs, and providing them with communications solutions. This position also understands how to use and demonstrate TDS products and seeks sales opportunities while educating the customer.
